the next week

Hello families,
I just wanted to let you know that I will be away from school from this Monday to the next. I had an amazing offer that I couldn't turn down - my friend and former colleague asked me to do her wedding photography in Jamaica. I did a massive amount of noon lunch supervision to earn the days off, and I will be gone for an entire week. Fred Bull will be the sub for our class. I have left him a few plans that he will work through with the class. I will upload the assignments on the blog so that you are all in the loop.
The main reason that I am writing to you is to tell you that our heat died last week. Our portable is 37 years old and the heater died. That means that a part had to be ordered and that it won't be here for a week. I went into the classroom today to plan of the sub, and it was below 15 degrees with a heater running on high. We can't have two heaters running because the breaker blows.
Please make sure that your child is dressed in layers tomorrow because it will be cold. If you are troubled by this, please contact your MLA or the SaskParty and let them know that you expect more for your children. I have contacted them myself, but your voice has more power. They really need to have plan for dealing with the aging infrastructure in our schools.
Thanks, and have a great week,
-Ms. Gallays

Performance Night

This is going to be a busy week for our class as we prepare for our performance on Thursday. I always worry about notes making it home and out of backpacks, so I try to post information to the blog and I am now sending that information via email. I still have indications that information is not making its way home, and that some families are not always sure of what is happening at school.
Hopefully this blog post will be helpful and be read by most parents and guardians.

This week we will prepare for our performance in the afternoon. Students should have already determined what they would like for their costume and have it at school to wear during performances. Please discuss this with your child to make sure that they have what they need and that they have it at school.
On Wednesday afternoon we will have a dress rehearsal at 2:30 for our k-5/6 students in the St. Anne gym.
On Thursday we will eat lunch early at 11:30. At 12:00 we will board a school bus to take us to St. Joseph High School. We will then run through the performance as many times as we can to get the lighting, sound, and stage positioning all ironed out. If parents are not able to attend the evening show, and would like to see some of the performance, you are more than welcome to stop by the St. Joseph High School Theatre in the afternoon. I would guess that around 1:30-1:45 we should have enough figured out that we are just running through the performance. We board the bus at 2:45, so if you do plan to come in the afternoon you must arrive before 2:45 or you won't be able to see anything.
Our final performance is on Thursday, February 27, at 7pm at St. Joseph Theatre. Students need to be there at 6:30. (That's this week!)

We anticipate that the show will last 1 hour. This is an estimate.

The culture report is due this Wednesday. Students have a jot note/research sheet that they have collected their information on. They need to hand write (printing is fine) their rough copy, and type their good copy. They will have more time today, Tuesday to work on it. Some students have complete the entire assignment. Most have their rough copy done.

On Friday, we will watch the movie The Outsiders because we will have finished the book. Students can bring snacks and a drink for the movie.
At the bottom you will find the invitation that was sent home before the break. If you would like to invite grandparents, they are welcome. This is an all ages show, and while we are charging $5 for an adult admission at the door, there is no charge for children. Proceeds of the show help fund this big project.
Please let me know if you have any questions - email is probably the easiest for me to get back to you quickly.

Candy crams are due back by tomorrow.
We will also have another fundraiser for our ArtsSmarts project on Thursday - long johns for $2.
The grade 7's have math homework tonight.
Have a great night everyone!

Mural Painting and stuff

Hello families!
I am posting a note here that will be sent home tomorrow. It has important information about our ArtsSmarts project. Please read it over carefully so that you are aware of evening painting sessions and our final performance date.
You do not have to print this out at home, I have already made copies that will be sent home tomorrow. Please cut off and return the bottom portion of the note so that I have an idea of how many students will be painting in the evenings.
I also want to ask that students who have not completed the ArtsSmarts survey please fill it out from home. You should be able to see it just above this window - it says Survey Monkey. We are asking each student to fill out the survey once so that we can collect data on self confidence as the project progresses. It is completely confidential. The problem that we are having is that the survey can only be completed once from each devise, and the school does not have enough devises for the number of students.
Thanks for you help. Have a great weekend.
