just a quick note...

Hello Parents and Guardians,
I apologize for not posting for so long; it has been a busy week for after school meetings. Yesterday I sent home a letter giving you some information on areas that your child is having some struggles or even falling behind. I do believe that knowledge is power and I want to empower you so that you can help your child. I know many sad faces left our classroom yesterday and many children were afraid that they would disappoint their parents. (It hurt my heart a little.)
Thank you for your patience as Mr. Herrick and I try to get programming in place. Our inquiry on human rights has taken a bit of a back seat as we try to get all of these tests and programs in place.

My goals for students in our classroom will be:
  • to help students develop a love for reading
  • to become proficient readers
  • to help students develop confidence in math
  • to become proficient in math
  • to develop writing skills
  • to develop critical and creative thinking skills
  • to develop a sense of community and a sense of social responsibility (global citizenship)
These goals cannot be achieved easily if students don't have confidence in their abilities. Sometimes we will need to take small steps to build confidence, which is an underlying goal in everything we do.

Today we will start working on our biography again. We will work hard to research information and develop great jot notes. After that, we will work on learning the writing process, the format of a paragraph, the format of a 5 paragraph essay, and develop writing skills.
Monday we will split into a few groups for math and try working in math ability groupings to see if we can maximize student growth.

Have a great day. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me through email or phone.
